PREVIEW:
With a rare clean bill of health for his squad, it is the Gorings Mead pitch that gives John Maggs most concerns ahead of Saturday's visit of Hendon. Heavy rain caused the postponement of the midweek fixture between Horsham YMCA and Met Police and Maggs will be keen to avoid a third successive postponement after snow and rain put paid to the recent trips to Maidstone and Carshalton.

The Hornets ended a run of 5 defeats against Hendon when the sides met at Vale Farm earlier in the season, in a match that will bring back painful memories for Gary Charman who suffered a double fracture of the cheekbone that would rule him out for the remainder of the campaign.

Despite winning their opening 2 matches of the season, Hendon have spent much of the campaign in the bottom half of the table and Tuesday night's 2-1 loss at Boreham Wood leaves them just 2 points above the relegation places. That midweek reverse, and Saturday's 2-3 home defeat to Wealdstone, brought to an end a decent run by Gary McCann's side that had previously been beaten just twice in 9 league matches.

Last season's Player of the Year, and Tuesday's goalscorer, James Busby also netted in victories over Margate and Maidstone as did leading scorer James Bent although the striker suffered a reverse in fortune when he was dismissed against Wealdstone for 2 bookable offences. As with Horsham, Hendon's squad has seen several changes over the past few weeks, among them the release of Wayne O'Sullivan and the arrival of striker Anthony Thomas, on loan from Farnborough. Moroccan forward Belal Aiteouakrim returned to the club earlier this month, after brief and unsuccessful spells with AFC Wimbledon and Maidenhead United, and Hornets fans may recall his stunning goal that earned the Greens maximum points from their visit to Queen Street in March 2008. That 92nd minute strike secured a 2-1 win for the visitors and it was a similar story at Woodside Road last season when Harry Hunt fired in off the post to end Horsham's 5 match unbeaten run.

The Hornets are poised to name an unchanged side from that which defeated Ashford Town last time out, with teenagers Adam Hutchings and Tony Nwachukwu given another opportunity to enhance their growing reputations, while recent capture Chris Riley will start on the bench.
