29-SEP-2007: Horsham 3 Bury Town 2 |
|
Lewis Taylor stepped off the
bench to help fire Horsham into the third qualifying round of the FA Cup for
the first time in three seasons but they were given a fright after Ryman
Division One (North) side Bury Town shocked the Hornets by taking a 2-0 lead
after 49 minutes. The home side enjoyed the bulk of the possession throughout
the game but had to wait until the 54th minute before finding a way past the
visitors' rearguard when Carl Rook scored from close range. But it was the
introduction of Taylor that helped swing the tie in Horsham's favour when he
scored with a fierce drive within minutes of replacing Eddie French and, with
just two minutes remaining, Rook put the seal on an incredible afternoon with
his second of the game.

25-SEP-2007: East Thurrock United 0
Horsham 1 |
|
A first half header from Carl
Rook was enough to move Horsham into second place in the Ryman Premier
Division table after a hard fought win at Rookery Hill this evening. Tom
Graves missed a good chance to double the Hornets' lead in a first half that
was dominated by John Maggs' side but Alan Mansfield had to produce a smart
one handed stop to prevent Jon Turnbull from equalising, twenty minutes from
time. The 1-0 win also saw Horsham record their first clean sheet since the
opening week of the
season.

25-SEP-2007: Invision / Ryman TV deal
dropped |
A statement on the League's
official website states: "The Board of the League has today announced with
regret that it has not been able to enter into a contract with Invision
Broadcast Media Limited for the broadcast of matches following the signing of
Heads of Agreement in June this year. The League has not been able to agree
terms of a contract with the Company as provided for in the Heads of
Agreement. A small number of Clubs had expressed concern at some of the
provisions requested by the Company particularly the ability of Clubs to
record away matches and put them on their own websites.
The Company withdrew its offer on Friday saying that they would be willing to
resume negotiations in a few months time." |

22-SEP-2007: Horsham 2 Chelmsford
City 1 |
|
A stunning goal from Jacob
Mingle, three minutes from time, saw Horsham record a memorable win over title
hopefuls Chelmsford City in front of Horsham's biggest crowd of the season.
The visitors, second in the table at the start of play, opened the scoring on
the stroke of half time when Kezie Ibe turned in Ricky Holmes' powerful drive
from close range but John Westcott equalised on 54 minutes with his first of
the season. Both goalkeepers made fine saves during the second half but the
Chelmsford net was breached for a second time when Mingle converted Lee
Carney's pass from 20 yards to give the Hornets their first league win in
three matches.

long distance walker is back !! |
|
Horsham fan Kevin Hodder
completed his marathon trek between John O'Groats and Land's End on Saturday
to a champagne reception from his parents after walking 923 miles in exactly 6
weeks. You can read about his final week
here as he struggled to fight the
monotony of his solo walk in aid of MacMillan Cancer Support and the Gambia
Education and Support charity. The club will be holding a bucket collection on
Kevin's behalf during Saturday's Ryman Premier Division clash with Chelmsford
City. |

15-SEP-2007: Horsham 7 Arundel 1 |
|
Carl Rook grabbed himself a
hat-trick as Horsham cruised to their biggest FA Cup victory in 47 years. The
visitors might have taken an early lead when Scott Tipper headed wide on 2
minutes but, despite the odd scare, Horsham were in complete control and, from
the moment Rook put the Hornets ahead on 31 minutes, there was only ever going
to be one winner. Simon Austin made it 2-0, shortly before the break, before
the home side went nap in the second half, adding further goals through Rook
(2), Nigel Brake, Jacob Mingle and a first Horsham goal for teenage striker
Dean Wright. Matthew Huckett scored the Arundel consolation.

12-SEP-2007: Howie's a hit at
Fontwell |
|
Howie the Hornet went down a
storm at Fontwell Racecourse on Sunday afternoon as the course threw open it's
doors to thousands of visitors for the annual Family Fun Day. The afternoon's
events kicked off with the mascot egg & spoon race and Howie was one of more
than a dozen participants who raced the 100 metre or so track, romping home in
third place behind arch rival Reggie the Red from Crawley Town and Portsmouth
FC's Frogmore. Howie proved a hit with hundreds of children and adults during
the course of the day and was frequently asked to pose for photographs with
his new legions of fans. A more detailed report and video of the race can be
found here. |

09-SEP-07: More injury woe for
Hornets |
|
Club secretary John
Lines has confirmed that Gary Charman has received a hairline fracture
of the jaw after clashing with Danny Spice in Saturday's defeat at
Hastings United. The winger was knocked unconscious in an aerial
collision and had to be helped from the pitch before being attended to
by paramedics. Charman is the fourth high profile player to have been
hit by injury this season with Lee Farrell and Lewis Taylor still
recovering from knee problems and Carl Rook still carrying a niggling
back complaint. |

seven miles west of Somerset's county capital of Taunton, with hopes of ending
his marathon walk from John O'Groats to Land's End this Friday - a day ahead

08-SEP-07: Hastings United 1 Horsham
0 |
|
A sickening injury to Gary
Charman almost made this afternoon's result an irrelevance after the Horsham
man was knocked unconscious in a first half collision with Danny Spice. After
being given the all-clear by paramedics during the break, Horsham's
long-serving winger was able to take a seat on the bench as he watched his
team-mates' late rally come to nought as Kevin Rose's 25th minute goal
clinched the points for the East Sussex side.

04-SEP-07: Leyton 4 Horsham 3 |
|
A rousing fightback couldn't
prevent Horsham from falling to a disappointing defeat at bottom club Leyton
tonight. The East London club, winless after their opening five games, raced
into a 2-0 lead inside the opening 23 minutes. Gary Charman halved the deficit
in the second half but, within four minutes, Leyton had stormed into a
4-1 lead with Mark Gradosielski and Rio Alderton grabbing their second goals
of the night. Carl Rook headed against the post before setting up Simon Austin
for his first goal for the club with just three minutes remaining and, despite
Rook claiming Horsham's third in stoppage time, they were unable to find an
equaliser.

04-SEP-07: Landmarks reached for
Horsham trio |
|
Three players
recorded personal milestones last week, reaching a combined total of
400 appearances between them. Monday's trip to Margate was Lee
Carney's 250th in a Horsham shirt, while Lewis Taylor will have
painful memories of his 50th appearance after limping out of the same
match, and Saturday's win against Carshalton saw Nigel Brake donning
the green and amber shirt for the 100th time. Our congratulations go
to each of them but they still have some way to go to catch Gary
Charman and Eddie French, though, who have notched 378 and 327
appearances respectively. |

divisional rivals Hastings United in the second round of the Ryman
League Cup. The Arrows won promotion to the Premier Division last
season, thanks to a play-off final success over Tooting & Mitcham
United, and currently occupy the midway place in the league with two
wins and a draw from their first five games. The match will take place
at the Atspeed Stadium on Tuesday, 2nd October. |

01-SEP-07: Horsham 4 Carshalton

Horsham moved into second place
with a comfortable win over Carshalton Athletic this afternoon. Two goals each
from Carl Rook and Lee Carney gave the Hornets a 4th win in 5 games and a 3rd
successive victory over the Robins for whom skipper David Graves was harshly
dismissed in the first half. Ryan Watts scored the consolation goal for a
