24-NOV-2007: Horsham 1 Harrow Borough
0 |
|
Jacob Mingle's sublime free-kick gave Horsham a
hard-earned victory over Harrow Borough this afternoon in a match in which the
result outshone the performance. Mingle's 15th minute strike gave Horsham a
deserved lead but only Carl Rook will know how he failed to extend the lead
shortly after when he spooned the ball over the top of the goal and, from then
on John Maggs' side struggled to make much of an impression on their
determined opponents. Alan Mansfield, restored to the side in place of 'flu
victim Paul Seuke, made a number of crucial saves as the Hornets withstood
some late pressure to record their first league win since 6th October.

21-NOV-2007: Cup tie sold out |
|
Hundreds of supporters descended upon
the Atspeed Stadium, the Solo Caffe and M&J News today to snap up the
remaining tickets for next week's big FA Cup clash with Swansea,
causing tickets to sell out by 9.45am. The huge interest in the tie,
Horsham's first ever appearance in the second round, was inevitably
going to leave some supporters disappointed but club secretary John
Lines insists that the club's policy regarding ticket distribution was
made in the genuine interest of all supporters. "Unfortunately, there
were always going to be some supporters who would be disappointed, no
matter how the tickets were sold. It was only right that we gave
priority to our season ticket holders and Supporters Club members,
which we did on Monday and Tuesday, and we tried to make things easier
for the general public by making tickets available from three
different outlets today. We could quite easily have sold double the
amount of tickets as the response has been so overwhelming but I am
sure that those lucky enough to have bought a ticket will be in for a
terrific evening." |

20-NOV-2007: Mansfield to miss cup
tie |
|
Club secretary John
Lines today confirmed that goalkeeper Alan Mansfield will definitely
miss the FA Cup second round tie with Swansea City following his
controversial sending-off against Eastbourne Town last week. John
Maggs was hoping to use video evidence in an attempt to overturn the
decision and it was hoped that match referee Mr Child would recommend
that the red card be rescinded but, as Lines explains "The FA say that
under FIFA regulations they are not permitted to accept a downgrading
request and so his suspension stands. There is also no mechanism for
appeal now." Recent signing Paul Seuke is set to take Mansfield's
place between the sticks. |

the 4th round of the Isthmian League Cup following today's draw. The

goalkeeper Alan Mansfield was dismissed in this Isthmian League Cup romp at
Eastbourne Town and now looks set to miss the club's FA Cup 2nd round clash
with Swansea City in a fortnight's time. The former Three Bridges stopper,
only playing due to Paul Seuke's ineligibility, saw red in the final minutes
for handling the ball outside his area. Horsham's goalscorers were Jacob

11-NOV-2007: Hornets to entertain
Swansea in cup 2nd round |
|
Horsham got the tie they wanted when
today's televised draw presented them with an FA Cup 2nd round meeting
at home to League One side Swansea City. After yesterday's
exhilarating win against Maidenhead United, manager John Maggs was
hoping for one of 'the big three' of Leeds United, Nottingham Forest
or Swansea City and his dreams were answered when former England
internationals Steve Hodge and Cyrille Regis drew the numbers from the
famous velvet bag. Speaking to the West Sussex County Times, a
delighted Maggs said "There could be a shock on the cards, I think
it's a winnable game." |

10-NOV-2007: Horsham 4 Maidenhead
United 1 |
|
Over 3,000 ecstatic supporters acclaimed an
outstanding display from Horsham that saw them blow Conference South side
Maidenhead away to claim a place in the second round of the FA Cup for the
first time in their history. A stunning long range strike from the excellent
Nigel Brake gave the Hornets the lead on the stroke of half-time and Lee
Carney doubled their advantage after the break with an acrobatic overhead
kick. Although Dwane Lee immediately reduced the arrears with a penalty,
Horsham added two goals in the final eight minutes through Carney and
substitute Lee Farrell and, although Gary Charman received his marching orders
for a second yellow card, John Maggs' side held on for a comfortable victory
to prompt a pitch invasion at the final whistle.

07-NOV-2007: Fenelon on the move |
|
Chamal Fenelon is set to join Conference
South side Havant & Waterlooville after Horsham today agreed the
release of the striker who has scored 3 goals in 4 appearances for the
club. Fenelon joined Horsham from Pease Pottage Village in the summer
but a lengthy suspension meant that he had to wait until October
before making his debut. However, he has been reportedly unwilling to
play for John Maggs' side after being made aware of the Hampshire
club's interest, giving Horsham little option than to release him from
his contract. |

07-NOV-2007: FA Cup memories part 1 -
Horsham v Swindon Town 1966 |
|
As Saturday's big FA Cup tie with Maidenhead
United draws ever closer, we take a moment to look back at Horsham's last
appearance in the FA Cup 1st round when Swindon Town were the visitors, back
in November 1966, and a record crowd gathered at the Queen Street ground to
see if the Hornets could upset the odds and pull off a famous victory.

06-NOV-2007: Maggs goes it alone |
|
The club has confirmed that assistant
manager Tommy Warrilow has accepted an offer to manage divisional
rivals Tonbridge Angels and has left the club with immediate effect.
Warrilow had been John Maggs' 'number two' since January 2004 and has
played a major role in the club's successes in that time. Maggs
admitted that it's a massive blow to the club but insists that there's
no hard feelings towards Warrilow who he has known for over 20 years.
"I signed Tommy for Crawley from Torquay when he was a 23 year old and
then I brought him to Horsham as a player before he had a serious car
crash that ended his career. Our relationship goes beyond that of
manager and assistant. I look upon Tom as a member of my own family so
it is a massive blow to see him leave but I've said many times that he
will be a huge success as a manager and I see Tonbridge as a stepping
stone for him. He certainly leaves with my blessing and, although it's
come at a very bad time for us, life goes on and we will all make sure
that we are fully focused on Saturday's game." Warrilow will team up
again with former Horsham coach Cliff Cant who will become his
assistant. |

03-NOV-2007: Witham Town 3 Horsham 2 |
|
Horsham crashed out of the FA Trophy this
afternoon with a disappointing defeat at Ryman League Division One (North)
side Witham Town. Two goals from Cody McDonald, the Essex club's leading
scorer, and one from Jamie Ricks condemned the Hornets to their first defeat
in six matches, continuing the visitors' dismal record in the competition.
Lewis Taylor had given Horsham hope with a first half equaliser but they were
unable to add to their tally until Chamal Fenelon fired home in the 4th minute
of injury time.
