31-JAN-2009: Youth Cup semi-final

Horsham Youth U18s are appealing for supporters to get behind them this Sunday as they take on old rivals Lewes in the semi-final of the Sussex County Youth Cup (kick-off 11am). The Hornets have scored 23 goals in their 4 previous ties, conceding just 2, but will go in to the game as underdogs against the Rooks who have lost just twice this season. Surprisingly beaten at Burgess Hill on Tuesday night, Lewes recovered by beating the same side 4-0 in Thursday's quarter-final and have already beaten the Hornets 5-0 earlier in the season. When the two sides met in the 2007 final, an action-packed game saw 3 penalties, 6 goals and a sending-off as Ivan Raby's side went down 4-2. Can they avenge that defeat ? With free admission, why not come down to Broadbridge Heath this Sunday and lend the lads your support ?

29-JAN-2009: Hastings United v Horsham: MATCH PREVIEW

Lee Carey and Russell Eldridge will be hoping to put one over their former team-mates on Saturday as the Hornets travel to Hastings for a testing Sussex 'derby' (kick-off 3pm). The match signals the first return to the Pilot Field for the duo after joining Horsham back in the summer and they will be keen to help avenge the 2-0 defeat meted out by their East Sussex neighbours in September. 28-JAN-2009: One in, one out. Budd departs but Reggie's back !

Darren Budd returned to Eastbourne Borough this week with John Maggs revealing that the midfielder may not be the last to leave as he sets about "balancing the books". There was encouraging news, though, with the announcement that Reggie Savage is set to join the club this week and the striker should make his debut in Saturday's Sussex 'derby' with Hastings United.

28-JAN-2009: Maggs: "We're in it to win it !"

John Maggs has admitted that he is looking for his side to go on and win the League Cup after last night's extra-time victory at Sutton United. While many managers see the cup as an inconvenience, the Horsham supremo confessed that there is no point in entering a competition if you don't intend trying to win it. "I don't like this mentality of not wanting to win these sort of games. I want us to go out and try to win every match, whether it's the League, the League Cup or the Brighton Charity Cup. I told the lads last night that if we weren't playing, we'd be running around a muddy field doing a training session and I know what I'd rather be doing."

27-JAN-2009: Sutton United 2 Horsham 3 (after extra-time)

Horsham claimed their first victory of 2009 as Claude Seanla scored the goals that set up a League Cup 4th round visit from Dartford. A hat-trick from the former Spurs reserve helped the Hornets gain small revenge for their league defeats against the U's this season in a match in which the visitors' lead was twice cancelled out before Seanla secured the win from the penalty spot, one of three converted on the night, in the first period of extra-time. The Ivory Coast born forward gave Horsham the lead two minutes after half-time after an effort from Gary Charman had hit the post but a foul on Dean Palmer enabled Billy Dunn to equalise from the spot soon after. With no addition to the score after 90 minutes it was John Maggs' side who went back in front on 93 minutes when Seanla converted following a pass from the recalled Steve Davis. It was level pegging again when Dunn converted his second penalty of the night but Seanla had the final say, slotting the ball home from twelve yards following a foul on Lee Carey. Sutton had late chances to equalise for the third time but Rob Tolfrey produced a superb double save and Craig Dundas saw his shot cleared off the line at the death as the Hornets held on for the win. 26-JAN-2009: Sutton United v Horsham: MATCH PREVIEW

Lee Carney is rated as doubtful for Saturday's Ryman League Premier Division trip to Hastings United after his recent foot injury was 'opened up a bit' in the weekend defeat by Dartford. "Lee's taken a nasty one on the foot and it's left him with a lot of swelling," revealed John Maggs. "He's definitely out of the game at Sutton and has got to be touch and go for the weekend." Carney's injury gives further reason for Maggs to ring the changes for Tuesday's cup tie at Gander Green Lane after admitting that his priorities lie more with the battle for league points than progress in the League Cup. Yinka Salaam is set for his start since rejoining the club last month while Williams Peauroux could take Carney's midfield spot after recovering from his injured knee and Claude Seanla continues to deputise for the absent Evan Archibald. Sutton, too, look set to field an experimental line-up after a flu-like bug swept through the club last week leaving boss Paul Doswell 'delighted' with his patched up side's 0-0 draw at Canvey Island on Saturday. The winners of the tie will face either Concord Rangers or Dartford in the 4th round.

26-JAN-2009: Mingle on the move ?

John Maggs has revealed that he has already been contacted by an unnamed club after Jacob Mingle was put on the transfer list today. The talented midfielder has been keen to perform at a higher level and Maggs confessed that the time was right for the player who is out of contract at the end of the season. "The boy is ambitious and wants to try his luck at a higher level and I've got no problem with that. Jacob has been a very good player for us and he's committed himself to giving 100% for the club until such time that he moves on." A string of impressive displays and memorable goals earned the former Ashford Town man the club's Player of the Year award last season.

23-JAN-2009: Horsham 0 Dartford 3

Horsham fell to a 3-0 defeat against a strong Dartford side who look to be heading towards the play-off places with this 6th win in 8 games. The Hornets started brightly but fell behind on 22 minutes when Ryan Hayes fired home from 25 yards to the delight of their large travelling contingent that helped produce a season's best attendance at Woodside Road. The lead was doubled within 4 minutes of the second half when Cody McDonald shot through Rob Tolfrey's legs but Alex Haddow missed a glorious chance to reduce the deficit when he scooped a shot over the bar from 6 yards and McDonald wrapped things up, 3 minutes from time, when he raced on to a long ball to beat Tolfrey and roll the ball in to the empty net. 22-JAN-2009: Supporters' coaches to Worthing to be scrapped

It is with great regret that, due to the very low of numbers of supporters using the subsidised coach travel to Worthing for home matches, the Board have decided to cancel these arrangements. The final coach will be on Saturday 24th January for the match versus Dartford. Season ticket holders who have paid in advance will, of course, be refunded. In lieu of this position, several HISC members and other travelling supporters will be organising a car share arrangement and details will be publicised on the unofficial fans' Forum

22-JAN-2009: Horsham v Dartford: MATCH PREVIEW

Claude Seanla makes his home debut this Saturday as the Hornets welcome Dartford to Woodside Road with John Maggs' side looking to avenge one of their heaviest defeats of the season (kick-off 3pm). More...

21-JAN-2009: Carshalton & Ashford matches rearranged

February promises a feast of football for Horsham's frustrated supporters after the recently postponed fixtures were rearranged today. Carshalton Athletic visit Woodside Road on Wednesday 11th Feb, the third of four successive home matches for the Hornets, followed six days later by a trip to Ashford Town (Mx). With matches against Lewes, Ramsgate, Tonbridge Angels, Billericay, Hendon and Ashford (again) all scheduled for next month - not to mention possible Brighton Charity Cup and Ryman League Cup ties - February will be a welcome tonic for the fans who have seen seven of the club's last eleven fixtures called off. The updated fixture list can be found here

20-JAN-2009: Sutton United v Horsham: MATCH POSTPONED

Tonight's League Cup tie at Sutton United has been postponed after heavy overnight rain left the Us' pitch unplayable. The two sides will try again next Tuesday, 27th January. Horsham U18s' Ryman Youth League clash with Eastbourne Town, due to have taken place at Broadbridge Heath this evening, has also been postponed.

19-JAN-2009: Sutton United v Horsham: PART THREE

Gary Charman is added to an otherwise unchanged Hornets squad that was narrowly beaten at Sutton United at the weekend as they make a quick return to Gander Green Lane for Tuesday night's League Cup 3rd round tie (kick-off 7.45pm). The long serving winger missed the weekend fixture due to suspension but his inclusion presents manager John Maggs with his strongest squad as they look to make amends for two league defeats against Sutton this season. Saturday's 2-1 loss was a repeat of the meeting at Woodside Road earlier in the season but Maggs feels his side are capable of progressing to the next round having pushed the 4th placed Us hard in what was Horsham's first match in three weeks. "I felt we were worth at least a point," he said. "Not one of the lads let me down and I think that if Williams' header had gone in at the end then they couldn't have had any complaints about the scoreline. Evan Archibald had probably his best game for us. He worked his socks off, won us the corner out of nothing that led to the equaliser and put in a superb cross for Jacob who should have scored. Williams was a bit sore after the game so I might have to give him a rest but Lee (Carney) and Alex came through without any problem so we're pretty much at full strength." By contrast, Sutton boss Paul Doswell has indicated that he will use the tie to give several of his squad players a run out including the experienced Chukki Eribenne, Matt Hann and Gavin Heeroo while Billy Dunn looks set for a surprise inclusion after leaving Saturday's match on a stretcher. Supporters are reminded that the tie must be settled on the night with extra-time and penalties coming in to play, if necessary.

17-JAN-2009: Sutton United 2 Horsham 1

Sam Page's thumping first half header wasn't enough to save Horsham from defeat as in-form Sutton United consolidated their 4th place in the Ryman Premier Division table with this narrow victory. The Us took the lead through debutant Jon Munday but it was the Hornets who produced the better football, despite playing in to a strong wind in the first period, and fully deserved their equaliser when Page headed home Lee Carey's near post corner. The second half introduction of Billy Dunn turned the match in the hosts' favour and he volleyed home Gavin McCallum's superb cross for what proved to be the winning goal on 63 minutes before being stretchered off following a challenge by Tony Acheampong 10 minutes later. Horsham were denied a second equaliser when Williams Peauroux's injury time header came back off the post and Sutton held on to repeat their success at Woodside Road earlier in the season. More....

15-JAN-2009: Sutton United v Horsham: MATCH PREVIEW

Williams Peauroux could miss out on Horsham's first ever league visit to Sutton United this Saturday as the Hornets look to get 2009 off to a winning, if somewhat belated, start with the first of two trips to Gander Green Lane in the space of 4 days (ko 3pm). More...

15-JAN-2009: League Cup draw

The draw for the 4th round of the Ryman League Cup threw up a list of imponderables with the Hornets hosting either Concord Rangers, East Thurrock United or Dartford if the Hornets first dispose of Sutton United next Tuesday.

15-JAN-2009: East Grinstead Town 0 Horsham 5

John Maggs labelled Wednesday friendly at East Grinstead Town as a 'worthwhile night' as his side limbered up for Saturday's trip to Sutton United with a commanding 5-0 victory. More..

13-JAN-2009: Friendly fixture put back 24 hours

Tonight's friendly at East Grinstead has been postponed for 24 hours due to a waterlogged pitch.

12-JAN-2009: Fixture update

Horsham will face Lewes in their re-arranged Sussex Senior Cup Quarter-Final tie on Wednesday, 4th February (kick-off 7.45pm) while Saturday's postponed Ryman League trip to Heybridge Swifts will now take place on Tuesday, 24th March (kick-off 7.30pm).

11-JAN-2009: Looking for a football fix this Tuesday ?

John Maggs hopes to give his squad a much needed run out this Tuesday after East Grinstead Town agreed to host a friendly between the two sides (kick-off 7.30pm). "I'm very grateful to East Grinstead for agreeing to play us at such short notice," said Maggs. "We're desperate to get some sort of a game under our belts after all the postponements and it'll give me an opportunity to have a look at my new signing, of course." The match will also see the long overdue return of Alex Haddow after a 6 week lay-off through injury.

10-JAN-2009: Player news

The club has acted quickly to replace the departed Jean Michel Sigere by bringing in striker Claude Stephane Seanla from Ashford Town (Kent). The 6ft tall Ivory Coast born striker began his career at Tottenham Hotspur, for whom he scored 17 goals in 29 starts for their reserve side, before joining Watford in 2006 where he made a substitute appearance for the 'other' Hornets against Accrington Stanley in a League Cup tie. Seanla dropped in to non-league football with Kettering only to make a brief return to the pro-ranks with Barnet before his career took him to St Albans City, Wivenhoe and Ashford Town. Having scored twice on his debut for the Nuts and Bolts, he went on to score 6 goals in 8 games before picking up an injury.

10-JAN-2009: Maggs happy to defend Brighton Charity Cup

John Maggs has defended his decision to enter the Brighton Charity Cup this season and is hoping to use the competition to give his players some much needed match practice this week, following the postponement of the Senior Cup tie against Lewes. The Hornets successfully defended the trophy in April, in what was the final match to have been played at Queen Street, but it was thought that Maggs would decide against taking part this season due to possible fixture congestion. "(Worthing chairman) Morty Hollis is on the Charity Cup committee and he's told me that Worthing will be entering, which would add a bit more interest to the competition, and I've decided that it would give me the chance to take a look at some of the youngsters as well as giving the fringe players a run out to try and keep them sharp so I agreed that we'd defend the trophy," Maggs revealed today. "Having said that, I've asked Morty if he can try and arrange a match for us on Tuesday night as the lads are desperate for a game so I'm keeping my fingers crossed."

10-JAN-2009: Senior Cup tie postponed

Tuesday night's Sussex Senior Cup quarter-final tie between Horsham and Lewes has been postponed due to the Rooks' FA Trophy commitments. The Conference club's tie against Havant & Waterlooville was one of many to fall victim to the icy conditions meaning that both sides must try again at the Dripping Pan this week.

10-JAN-2009: Heybridge Swifts v Horsham: MATCH POSTPONED

This afternoon's Ryman Premier League fixture against Heybridge Swifts has been postponed following an early morning inspection of the Scraley Road pitch. The Hornets will hope for a change of fortune when they host Lewes in Tuesday night's Sussex Senior Cup Quarter-Final tie (kick-off 7.45pm).

08-JAN-2009: Heybridge Swifts v Horsham: MATCH PREVIEW

Heybridge Swifts officials have announced that their Scraley Road ground will undergo a pitch inspection on Saturday morning, ahead of their Ryman League meeting with Horsham. The freezing conditions have seen both sides suffer postponements in their last 3 matches and both will be eager to get back into action after showing some good form during December. The Hornets' 2-0 win at Tooting & Mitcham, post-Christmas, was their 4th success in 5 matches while the Swifts' attempts to climb away from the bottom of the table have been aided by a haul of 7 points from 3 games including impressive victories at Maidstone and Ashford. Horsham will be without the suspended Gary Charman as they go in search of a first ever win on their opponents' home ground that would give them a league double after the 2-0 win at Woodside Road back in August. Should the game be given the go-ahead, the club will be running a coach to the match at a cost of £12 return. Further information can be found here

07-JAN-2009: Dates for the diary

The postponed Ryman League fixtures against Hendon and Staines Town have now been rearranged. Wembley FC is the venue for the match against Hendon on Monday 23rd February (ko 7.45pm) and a visit to Staines takes place on Tuesday 3rd March (ko 7.45pm) with only the visit of Ashford Town breaking up a run of 5 successive away games for John Maggs' side. No dates have yet been agreed for the home game against Carshalton Athletic or the trip to Ashford Town (Mx).
