30-DEC-2008: Ashford Town (Mx) v
Horsham: MATCH POSTPONED |
|
Tonight's Ryman League Premier Division clash between Horsham and
Ashford Town has been postponed due to a frozen pitch. |
|
27-DEC-2008: Tooting & Mitcham United 0
Horsham 2 |
|
The Hornets secured a comfortable 2-0 win at Tooting & Mitcham
yesterday thanks to goals from Williams Peauroux and Gary Charman. The
Terrors were up against it from the moment goalkeeper Dave King was
dismissed for bringing down Jean Michel Sigere and, once Peauroux put
Horsham ahead from the resulting penalty, it seemed a case of how many
goals John Maggs' side would score against their struggling hosts.
However, Charman's second half thunderbolt was the only addition to
the scoring as Horsham recorded their first away league win since
August.

24-DEC-2008: Tooting & Mitcham United v Horsham: MATCH PREVIEW |
|
Lee Carney is set to start Saturday's Ryman Premier Division fixture
at Tooting & Mitcham as the Hornets look to bounce back from
Saturday's defeat against Dover Athletic (kick-off 3pm). The
midfielder has played just 4 times in an injury hit three and a half
months after suffering a foot injury at Ramsgate but will be a welcome
addition to John Maggs' side as they look to record a 6th successive
victory on the Terrors' own ground.

|
The date of Horsham's Sussex Senior Cup quarter-final tie against
Lewes has been set for Tuesday 13th January. Kick-off at Woodside Road
is 7.45pm. |
|
20-DEC-2008: Horsham 1 Dover Athletic 2 |
|
Even the encouragement of a 3rd minute penalty failed to inspire the
Hornets as they fell to a disappointing defeat against Dover Athletic
this afternoon. Jean Michel Sigere's 9th goal of the season got
Horsham off to the perfect start but they failed to trouble David
Wilkinson's goal throughout the remaining 87 minutes and were punished
for two defensive mistakes as the visitors picked up their 19th league
win of the season. A slip from skipper Sam Page led to the Kent club's
equalising goal on 38 minutes when Lee Browning scored after Shaun
Welford's shot had come back off a post and Welford grabbed the
winner, 12 minutes from the end, after Anthony Acheampong had been
caught in possession. The defeat leaves the Hornets in 15th place in
the Ryman Premier Division table.

16-DEC-2008: Siggy's happy to remain a
Hornet |
|
Jean Michel Sigere believes the Hornets have turned the corner
following the recent victory against Canvey Island and is looking
forward to extending his Horsham career beyond his current loan spell.
In an article in the national non-league newspaper NonLeague Today the
Frenchman, whose 3 month loan from Eastbourne Borough ends next month,
pays tribute to skipper Sam Page, the club's supporters and 'top
bloke' Jacob Mingle and reveals how he is enjoying his football again
under John Maggs. To read the full article, click

15-DEC-2008: Maggs takes positives from
weekend of inactivity |
|
New signing Darren Budd must wait another week before making his
Hornets debut but John Maggs believes his side will have benefited
from the heavy rain that brought about the postponement of Saturday's
Ryman League clash at Staines Town. There's news, too, of a return for
Yinka Salaam.

13-DEC-2008: Staines Town v Horsham:
MATCH POSTPONED |
|
Today's Ryman League clash with Staines Town has been postponed
following a referee's inspection. The Wheatsheaf Park pitch is
currently waterlogged and, with rain still falling quicker than the
water can drain away, the decision has been made to call the game off. |

12-DEC-2008: Horsham draw familiar foe
in Cup quarter-finals |
|
Horsham will face old rivals Lewes in the quarter-finals of the Sussex
Senior cup after the draw was made at Sussex FA headquarters earlier
today. This will be the 5th time in 6 seasons in which the sides have
been paired together in this competition with John Maggs' side still
awaiting their first win. The Rooks were triumphant in the 2006 Final
and saw off the Hornets' challenge at Queen Street in last year's
quarter-final but, with the East Sussex club currently struggling at
the foot of the Blue Square Conference Premier table, Horsham
supporters will be hoping its a case of 5th time lucky. No date has
yet been agreed for the Woodside Road tie. |
|
12-DEC-2008: Borough boy Budd joins up |
|
John Maggs has turned to old pal Garry Wilson for help in
strengthening his injury stricken side by signing Darren Budd from
Eastbourne Borough on dual forms with the Blue Square Conference side.
The 24 year old midfielder has seen first team chances limited this
season but was in the Boro' side that earned promotion to the
Conference Premier last campaign and will go straight in to the
Hornets side that travels to Staines Town tomorrow. |

against Three Bridges through illness but Horsham still face a massive
test of character this Saturday when they travel to 3rd placed Staines
Town with barely 11 fit players to choose from (kick-off 3pm).

09-DEC-2008:
Horsham 2 Three Bridges 1 |
|
Horsham's French connection fired John Maggs' side to victory for the
second time in 4 days as Williams Peauroux and Jean Michel Sigere
scored either side of a goal from former Hornet Dean Wright to secure
a passage to the 4th round of the Sussex Senior Cup at the expense of
Three Bridges. The County Leaguers had stunned their hosts with
Wright's 31st minute equaliser but they were up against it when Wright
was red carded just before the break and Sigere's opportunistic 8th
goal of the season made it 3 wins in a row for the Hornets.

Cup.

08-DEC-2008: It's a walk in the park, and beyond, for Hornets
supporters |
|
While most of us were enjoying a lie-in, and a leisurely start to
Saturday, a hardy group of Horsham fans gathered outside Queen Street
in the early morning darkness to begin a 20-odd mile trek across the
South Downs to Worthing to increase awareness of the club's homeless
plight and raise funds for the Strawford Centre. Bob Frankland, who
admits to having been the eldest participant (his age is a guarded
secret but he assures me he felt 50 years older having completed the
walk) brings us his take on the day's events, together with
photographs from Damian Carter and Colin Young.

06-DEC-2008: Horsham 3 Canvey Island 0 |
|
Horsham bounced back from last week's 6-1 defeat at Harrow Borough by
recording a deserved victory against in-form Canvey Island this
afternoon. An even first half saw the free-scoring visitors go close
to breaking the deadlock when John Curran missed from 2 yards and
Richard Halle's header was cleared off the line by Lee Carey after the
Hornets had twice seen penalty appeals turned down when Evan Archibald
and Gary Charman appeared to be fouled inside the area. It took until
the 71st minute before either side could make the breakthrough and it
was Horsham who got it when Jean-Michel Sigere converted a penalty,
after Chris Moore had handled, and sub Williams Peauroux doubled the
lead with his first goal for the club, 8 minutes later. Sigere made
sure of the Hornets' first win in 5 league games with an acrobatic
finish in the 90th minute.

05-DEC-2008: Sutton to host Hornets in League Cup |
|
Horsham's reward for their extra-time win against Worthing is a trip
to Premier Division rivals Sutton United after the draw for the 3rd
round of the League Cup was made earlier today. The sides have already
met this season when the Us recorded a 2-1 win at Woodside Road back
in September and the cup tie will be the first of 2 trips to Gander
Green Lane for the Hornets next month with the match scheduled to be
played w/c 5th January, around 10 days before the Ryman League
encounter on Jan 17th. |

04-DEC-2008: Horsham v Canvey Island: MATCH PREVIEW |

04-DEC-2008: Page and Carney facing extended spells on the
sidelines |
|
Jack Page is due to visit another specialist next week after failing
to show signs of recovery from his troublesome groin while boss John
Maggs fears that Lee Carney could still be a couple of weeks away from
a return after making slow progress in shaking off a similar
complaint. "Unfortunately Jack's not showing any improvement and is
obviously feeling quite low. The lad just wants to play football but
he's very concerned because his groin just isn't clearing up at the
moment". Alex Haddow received a setback after picking up an infection
in the leg wound received at Harrow last weekend and faces daily trips
to the hospital over fears that he may have contracted septicaemia.
"Alex was actually left for quite a while before being treated
properly at the hospital and he picked up an infection of the blood,"
explained Maggs. "He has to go back every day to have the dressings
changed but they think they've got it under control. He's obviously
off work at the moment, and is on strong antibiotics, but I would
imagine it'll be at least 3-4 weeks before we'll see Alex back in
action, which is a massive blow to us." Meanwhile, doubts have been
raised over the future of on loan midfielder Williams Peauroux after
Maggs revealed that the Frenchman was looking for a renewed deal with
the club this week. Peauroux has shown some nice touches since
arriving from Blue Square Premier side Ebbsfleet United on a
match-by-match basis but, with the Kent club reluctant to pay the
wages of the on-loan player, and Maggs being asked to reduce the
playing budget, the manager was set to enter in to discussions with
the former Eastleigh man ahead of Saturday's clash with Canvey Island. |
|
02-DEC-2008: Worthing 1 Horsham 2 |
|
Sam Page couldn't have chosen a more dramatic time to claim his first
goal for the Hornets after securing the club's passage to the 3rd
round of the League Cup with the last kick of extra-time in an
entertaining tie at Woodside Road. Evan Archibald had given Horsham
the lead with a diving header but Worthing, who had seen an early
effort from Karl Akehurst hit the post, equalised on 77 minutes
through Ben Andrews. Rob Tolfrey kept the Hornets in the match with
two superb saves before the skipper stole in to bundle home a Russell
Eldridge corner to leave the Rebels crestfallen after the match had
looked destined to go to penalties. Match report, photos and brief
video highlights are now
on-line. |
