29-DEC-2007: Horsham 1 Margate 0 |
|
Andy Howard's 84th minute goal secured the Hornets' first ever victory
over Margate to provide a perfect end to another memorable year. A
highest league attendance of the season saw Horsham, without the
holidaying Lewis Taylor, enjoy the better of the first half but
without finding the cutting edge with which to capitalise on their
territorial advantage. Simon Austin shot over after good work from
Gary Charman, on his 400th appearance, but Jacob Mingle wasted the
best chance of the half when he blazed over from close range. The
visitors upped the tempo after the break and Horsham were grateful to
Paul Seuke for saving from James Pinnock and Dean Standen before the
unmarked Howard volleyed home at the far post following a corner from
Lee Carney.

28-DEC-2007: Tonbridge Angels 1
Horsham 5 |
|
Horsham
secured their biggest away victory in the league since March 2006 with an
astonishing 5-1 defeat of Tonbridge Angels on Boxing Day. The match had taken
on extra interest with former assistant coach Tommy Warrilow, Cliff Cant,
Richard Harris, John Westcott and Carl Rook now among the Kent club's
number but a superb display from the Hornets ensured that bragging rights went
their way for the 5th successive time. Lewis Taylor gave the visitors the lead
from the penalty spot on the stroke of half-time, a controversial incident
that also saw Robbie Kember red-carded, but Fraser Logan equalised for the
hosts on the hour. A quickfire brace from Gary Charman put Horsham in the
driving seat and they went on to add further goals in the closing stages
through substitute Simon Austin and loan signing Jean Michel Sigere. The win
sees John Maggs' side move up 4 places to 13th in the Ryman Premier League
table.

22-DEC-2007: Horsham 1 Maidstone
United 2 |
|
The man with surely the longest surname
in the Ryman League, Maidstone's Mo Takalobighashi, grabbed both goals
as Horsham's malaise continued this afternoon with a fourth successive
defeat in front of their highest league crowd of the season. After
Folkestone and Walton Casuals had claimed victories over John Maggs'
FA Cup heroes in the last week, the manager demanded an improved
performance from his players and he got it during a first half in
which the Hornets were unlucky not to take the lead. However, Nigel
Brake's 46th minute strike suggested that their fortunes might be
about to change but Takalobighashi replied with two opportunist goals
on 59 and 81 minutes and the visitors withstood a late onslaught
before taking the three points to avenge their opening day defeat at
Bourne Park.

20-DEC-2007: Maggs agrees contract
extension |
|
Horsham
Football club are delighted to announce that John Maggs has agreed to extend
his managerial contract to a further two years, taking him up to May 2010. The
Club has enjoyed much success under Maggs' leadership, winning the Sussex
Floodlit Cup, Brighton Charity Cup (3 times), Isthmian League runners-up
(twice), Isthmian play-off runners-up and Sussex Senior Cup finalists and are
currently competing at their highest ever level. This season saw the Hornets
reach the 2nd round of the FA Cup for the first time, taking League One side
Swansea City to a replay, and the club is delighted that John has committed
himself for this further period. |

18-DEC-2007: Horsham 1 Walton Casuals
2 |
|
Eddie
French suffered a night to forget as the Hornets were dumped out of the League
Cup by Walton Casuals for the second successive season. The long serving
defender scored an own goal to cancel out Jacob Mingle's 57th minute opener
before failing to deal with an innocuous ball, allowing Mark King to grab a
90th minute winner. But this defeat was more than a tail of one man's errors
as John Maggs' side produced a wretched performance that was unrecognisable
from that which pushed Swansea so hard in last week's FA Cup tie.

18-DEC-2007: Hornets hope it's third time
lucky as Rooks up next in Senior Cup |
|
Horsham
face a tough task if they are to make it through to the semi-finals of the
Sussex Senior Cup for the 2nd time in 3 seasons after being drawn at home to
Conference South pacesetters Lewes. The Rooks have ended Horsham's cup dreams
in each of the last two seasons, winning a controversial final 3-1 in 2006 and
then winning last year's quarter-final tie 2-0 after a 1-1 draw. The date of
this match has yet to be announced. |

15-DEC-2007: Folkestone Invicta 4 Horsham 1 |
|
Horsham's
cup memories were nothing but distant memories this afternoon as they crashed
to a dismal defeat at struggling Folkestone Invicta. The hosts, next to bottom
in the table and without a win in eleven games, stunned the Hornets by racing
in to a 3-0 lead by the interval through goals from Mark Saunders, Charlie
Glyde and Richard Shittu. Despite enjoying some decent possession, Horsham
were ineffective in front of goal and had to rely on a penalty from Lewis
Taylor to get on the scoresheet before substitute Mark Everett bagged a late
goal to record their biggest win of the season.

12-DEC-2007: Rook leaves the nest |
|
After days of speculation, the club can
confirm that leading scorer Carl Rook has decided to leave the club to
join up with former Hornets number 2 Tommy Warrilow at Tonbridge
Angels. The popular striker arrived at Queen Street in January 2005
and made an immediate impact by scoring both goals in the 2-1 defeat
of Newport (IOW). Since then, he has gone on to be a consistent
goalscorer, topping the charts last season and leading the way this
campaign with 12 goals. His final record for the club was an
impressive 49 goals in 90 matches. We thank him for his services. |

11-DEC-2007: Swansea City 6 Horsham 2 |
|
Horsham's
historic FA Cup run finally came to an end at the hands of Swansea City but the League One leaders were
give a fright after Lee Farrell twice gave the visitors the lead in an
entertaining first half that saw 6 goals, a strong penalty appeal denied and
plenty of goalmouth action. Roared on by almost 400 travelling fans, Horsham
got off to the best possible start when Farrell lobbed goalkeeper Dorus de
Vries on 20 minutes, this after Lee Carney looked to have been impeded
in the penalty area by Kevin Austin inside the opening seconds of the game,
and although Darren Pratley supplied an instant equaliser, Farrell capitalised
on an error by De Vries to deservedly restore the lead. Leon Britton scored
the Swan's second and, with Nigel Brake limping after a heavy challenge, the
home side ran in two further goals before the break from Jason Scotland and
Ferrie Bodde to turn around with a flattering 4-2 advantage. Andy Robinson's
goal, 9 minutes after the restart, destroyed any hopes Horsham may have had of
staging an unlikely comeback and Warren Feeney put the final nail in the
coffin, 11 minutes from time. Despite this heavy defeat, the Horsham players
can be proud of their achievements in this season's competition and deservedly
took the applause of their vocal following after the final whistle.

10-DEC-2007: FA Cup comes to Horsham |
|
Horsham's squad was
given a clean bill of health ahead of today's trip to Swansea with
only Stuart Myall giving slight cause for concern. The experienced
defender tweaked a hamstring during Tuesday night's win at Wick but he
will start the FA Cup 2nd round replay at the Liberty Stadium after
coming through Saturday's training session without further problems.
Paul Seuke is set to retain his place in goal after his heroics in the
1-1 draw at the Atspeed Stadium 10 days ago but leading scorer Carl
Rook misses out through suspension. The players were rewarded for
their magnificent cup exploits with a visit from the FA Cup itself on
Saturday. In an occasion more akin to the visit from a member of the
monarchy, the famous trophy arrived at their Holbrook training ground
accompanied by several minders and security men who enforced protocol
upon the players before they were allowed to pose for photographs.
Hopefully security won't be as tight when the lads get to Wembley next

07-DEC-2007: Angels in for Rook |
|
Hornets boss John Maggs has confirmed that the
club has received an official approach from Tonbridge Angels for leading
scorer Carl Rook. The Kent club, now managed by Maggs' former assistant Tommy
Warrilow, are rebuilding their side after a poor start to the season and are
hopeful of adding the striker to their squad following the departure of the
prolific Jon Main to AFC Wimbledon last month. "I have done everything I can
to try and keep Carl at this club," said Maggs, who has confirmed that he has
already turned down a four figure offer from the Angels, "but it's down to the
player now. I have matched Tonbridge's financial offer but he only lives 20
minutes from their ground so we'll have to wait and see. " Rook joined the
Hornets from Dover Athletic in January 2006, was the club's leading
goalscorer last season, and currently tops the list this campaign with 12
goals. As well as Warrilow, Rook would be teaming up with former Hornets
team-mate John Westcott who made the switch to the Longmead Stadium 3 weeks
ago. |

04-DEC-2007: Horsham 2 Wick 0 |
|
Horsham's fine cup form continued with a 2-0
win against Sussex County League leaders Wick tonight. With the Queen Street
pitch currently unplayable, this Senior Cup 3rd round tie had been switched to
Crabtree Park and represented a tough challenge for John Maggs' side but a
goal in each half from Gary Charman and Simon Austin secured a place in the
quarter-finals for the 3rd successive season.

Cup tie has been acknowledged by the Ryman League who have awarded the club
the 'Performance of the Month' for November. Goalkeeper Paul Seuke, whose
heroics helped keep the Swans at bay, has also been nominated as one of the
players of the round by the FA with a VIP invite to the final up for grabs for
the player polling the most votes. Nigel Brake and Lee Carney were among those
put forward for the 1st round nominations. You can vote for Paul via the FA's

02-DEC-2007: Horsham to host the
Hawks, if they get past Swansea ! |
|
Horsham will face
non-league opposition in the FA Cup third round, if they get past
Swansea City in next week's replay. Havant & Waterlooville made all
the headlines with their excellent 1-0 win at Notts County on Saturday
and the Blue Square Conference South side will no doubt be
disappointed not to have drawn Premiership opposition on the occasion
of their first ever appearance in the FA Cup third round. Hornets boss
John Maggs was content with the draw. "Some of our supporters might be
disappointed but our 'third round' is at Swansea. We have that in the
bag. It's the opportunity to play at a fabulous ground, in front of a
big crowd, and we've got to be happy with that. If we get past that,
and I'm confident that we'll give Swansea a hard game, then we've got
to be happy with another home tie." |

to our supporters who helped create such a fantastic atmosphere inside the
Atspeed Stadium during the match. |

01-DEC-2007: Horsham 1 Swansea City 1 |
|
Horsham's fantastic FA Cup journey continues
after Lewis Taylor's 84th minute penalty earned John Maggs' side a deserved
draw against the League One leaders. An unforgettable night, played in
torrential rain throughout, saw the Hornets compete well against their famous
opponents but they trailed at the break to Guillem Bauza's neat near post
finish on 41 minutes. However, the home side refused to lie down and, with
Paul Seuke outstanding in the Horsham goal, they got the equaliser their
efforts deserved when substitute Lee Farrell was hauled over in the
penalty area and Taylor strode up to fire the ball in to the back of the net
to spark scenes of unbridled joy around Queen Street.
