30-AUG-07: Maggs brings in new
striker |
|
John Maggs has acted quickly to
bring in cover for his injured strikers by signing former Maidstone United
forward Simon Austin. The 26 year old was released by the Stones this week
after four seasons at the Kent club during which time he scored 43 goals in
155 appearances. Austin will train with his new team-mates tonight before
signing Ryman League forms and will go straight in to the side to play
Carshalton on Saturday. |

29-AUG-07: Midfielder out for 4 weeks |
|
Lewis Taylor looks set to be
sidelined for the next 4 weeks after being diagnosed with cartilage damage
following a knock sustained against Margate on Monday. A rueful John Maggs
said “He saw a professional last night who’s prodded him and pulled him, not
given him a scan or anything, and he says that the ligaments are okay but he’s
damaged his cartilage. I’m hoping that he can have a proper scan but I don’t
know whether the club will agree to pay for it. I reckon we’re looking at 2-4
weeks before he’s able to play again. It’s very disappointing, what with Lee
Farrell being out as well. We’re targeting the FA Cup game (on Sept 15th) for
Lee to return but we’ll have to do it properly and make sure he’s right first.
“ Of his other injured striker, Carl Rook, Maggs added “Rooky will probably
play some part in Saturday’s game but whether he starts or comes on towards
the end, I don’t know. He’s still very sore but we’ll take another look at him
on Thursday night and see how it goes.” |

Horsham are delighted to announce that the Northern Ireland national squad
will be using the Atspeed Stadium facilities to prepare for two crucial
European Championship ties next month. Nigel Worthington's

fans' favourite David Healy, will be training on the morning of Wednesday 5th
September before flying out of Gatwick to take on Latvia on the Saturday. They
face Iceland 4 days later. |

28-AUG-07: Maggs reflects on the
weekend's results and more injuries |
|
John Maggs was in reflective
mood after the Bank Holiday weekend's fixtures had seen his side top the
table, only to relinquish the position 48 hours later, and lose two of his
most influential players.

27-AUG-07: Margate 2 Horsham 0 |
|
Horsham's injury woes continued
when their perfect start to the campaign was ended with a 2-0 defeat on the
sunny Kent coast. Already missing strikers Carl Rook and Lee Farrell,
midfielder Lewis Taylor was forced out of the action during the first half to
leave John Maggs' facing a mini crisis after just four games.

25-AUG-07: Horsham 3 Boreham Wood 2 |
|
A stunning strike by Lewis Taylor
secured the Hornets a narrow victory that was enough to put them top
of the early Ryman Division table. However, the gloss was taken off of
their 100% winning start with an injury to striker Lee Farrell that
threatens to keep him out of the Bank Holiday trip to Margate.

22-AUG-07: Club mourns the passing of
Geoff Crowther |
|
Horsham Football Club club was saddened
to hear of the recent death of former player Geoff Crowther.
Geoff was certainly one of Horsham's great players. He made his debut
as a youngster at home to Brighton & Hove Albion 'A' in the
Metropolitan League in April 1955 and soon went on to establish
himself as a regular in the first team. Geoff generally played at
full-back, and formed a formidable partnership with Ron Hartley, but
he also had outings at centre-half and even up front from where he
scored nine goals for the club. He moved on in 1962, but returned in
1964 and played in the famous FA Cup game against Swindon Town at
Queen Street in November 1966. In total Geoff played at Horsham for
eleven seasons, making over 250 appearances.
Our thoughts and sympathy go out to Geoff's wife Shirley and his
family at this sad time

21-AUG-07: Horsham 1 Folkestone
Invicta 0 |
|
A 7th minute penalty from Lewis
Taylor was all that divided Horsham and Folkestone Invicta as the Hornets made
it two wins out of two with a laboured victory against Neil Cugley's hard
working side. Taylor made no mistake from the spot after Kevin Hemsley was
bundled over in the box but the home side failed to capitalise on their early
advantage and were forced to reorganise when Carl Rook limped off after 26
minutes.

18-AUG-07: Maidstone United 0 Horsham
2 |
|
Horsham's record signing wasted
little time in repaying his transfer fee as Horsham recorded an impressive
opening day victory against last season's Division One champions. Lee Farrell
responded to jibes from the Maidstone United management by grabbing both goals
as the Hornets began the new campaign with a win for only the second time in
seven seasons. An injury to Carl Rook was the only blip on an otherwise
satisfactory afternoon although John Maggs' return to one of his former clubs
was soured by his half-time dismissal after a confrontation with his opposite
number, Lloyd Hume.

|

miss the first two months of the season through suspension after
picking up a series of bans whilst playing for Pease Pottage Village
last season. The accumulated ban rules the highly regarded forward out
of action until October 15th. |

|
Long serving forward Gary Charman became
the second player to commit himself to Horsham Football Club this week
when he put pen to paper and signed a contract that will keep him at
Queen Street until the end of the 2007/8 season. The popular winger
has made more than 350 appearances for the Hornets since breaking in
to the first team in 1998, scoring 120 goals, and his signing -
alongside that of Lee Carney on Monday - is sure to delight the
Horsham supporters. |

14-AUG-07: Charity Walk latest |
|
High winds and
driving rain failed to stop Horsham fan Kevin Hodder on his
fundraising walk from John O’Groats to Land’s End. Just over a week
into his trek to raise money for MacMillan Cancer Support and the
Gambia Education and Teacher Support, Kevin has totalled more than 200
miles, at an average of 20 miles a day, as he works his way south
through the Scottish Highlands. Affording himself just a ½ day’s rest,
the 24 year old has scaled the heights of Ben Nevis, hiked along the
banks of Loch Ness and even spent the night in a converted chicken
coup ! You can follow Kevin’s route

13-AUG-07: Carney signs until 2008 |
|
Lee Carney provided the club with the
perfect fillip ahead of the new season by signing a new one-year deal
that will take him into a seventh year with the Hornets. The popular
midfielder made his debut in November 2001 and quickly established
himself as one of the most talented players at Queen Street, earning
the player of the year award in 2004. Injuries restricted his
appearances last season but a series of impressive pre-season
displays, and with boss John Maggs believing that Carney is in his
fittest condition for two years, hopes are high that the former Pease
Pottage Village player will have a major influence on the club's
fortunes as they look forward to their second season in the Ryman
Premier Division. |
|
13-AUG-07: Geard on his way out |
|
Former Burgess Hill Town midfielder Matt
Geard looks set to leave the club following talks with manager John
Maggs. The Club's abundance of left-sided talent has left the
combative Geard facing a battle to secure a regular first team spot
and now looks set to move on after two seasons at the club during
which time he made 65 appearances, scoring 3 goals. |

13-AUG-07: Cant leaves |
|
Reserve team coach
Cliff Cant has left the club after turning down an offer of coaching
the club's youth side. The Club's decision to scrap their reserve
squad left Cant effectively redundant and, when the offer of taking
over as coach of the under 18s was turned down by the highly respected
former Arsenal pro, he decided to take a break from his duties to
devote more time to following his beloved Tottenham Hotspur. Cant
leaves with the sincere thanks and best wishes of John Maggs and
Horsham Football Club. |
|
12-AUG-07: Maggs disappointed but not
downbeat after defeat |
|
Hornets boss John
Maggs made no excuses for yesterday's heavy defeat at Fleet Town,
promising that there will be no repeat when his side begins their
League campaign against Maidstone United next weekend. Having seen his
players beaten 4-1 by last season's Division One play-off
semi-finalists, Maggs was at a loss to explain a lacklustre
performance in which only Kevin Hemsley avoided criticism. "It was a
poor pitch but that's no excuse," said the Horsham supremo. "We
weren't at the races and the best I could say to the players at
half-time was that at least we weren't losing. Even though we were
playing down the slope in the second half, we were very poor and were
outplayed by a more physical side." Lee Farrell scored the Hornets'
consolation goal to register his third of the close season. |
