30-JULY-2009: Knee told to rest injured hamstring |
|
Mark
Knee could be rested for the trips to Godalming and Walton &
Hersham after suffering further damage to his hamstring during Tuesday's
win at Horley Town. Last season's player of the year lasted just 25
minutes of the match at the New Defence before being replaced by veteran
Ian Payne but John Maggs is confident that the former Worthing man will
be fit for the start of the season.

29-JULY-2009: Last few items available as player sponsorship nears
completion |
|
The
club has received a terrific response in support of next season's player
sponsorship with just a few items remaining unsold. If you'd like to sponsor
Steve Davies' boots, as used to great effect during last night's goalscoring
display at Horley, the socks and boots of talented youngsters Jack Page and
George Magnus, or even physio Andi Marfleet then please let Sean Bravery or Adam
Hammond know. Remember, any additional
revenue brought in via your sponsorship will be put towards the player budget.

28-JULY-2009: Davies stunner helps
Hornets to third successive win |
|
An improved second half display from the Hornets saw them return from
Horley this evening with a 3-0 win in their latest pre-season fixture. After
an uneventful first half, Pat Harding fired home from close range following a
corner and Steve Davies doubled the lead with a spectacular volley, just
before the hour mark. Gary Charman rounded things off with a late strike,
after a fine exchange between Jack Lyons and Lee Carney, but John Maggs'
evening was soured slightly when Mark Knee was forced to withdraw with a
recurrence of his hamstring problem. |

27-JULY-2009: Nicholls set to start at New Defence |
|
James Nicholls is in line to make his first start for
the Hornets in tomorrow's meeting with Horley Town at the New Defence
ground (kick-off 7.45pm). The centre-back, who lists Portsmouth and
Coventry City among his former clubs, has been impressive in his
recent substitute appearances against Worthing and Redhill and will
replace Scott Harris as Horsham look to record a third win in a row.
John Maggs also hopes to have Alex Haddow and Gary Charman available
for selection but Claude Seanla is ruled out through illness. |

25-JULY-2009: Harding off the mark as Hornets edge out Redhill |
|
Pat
Harding spared Horsham's blushes with a second half brace to help them to a 2-1
win at Redhill this afternoon. An uncharacteristic error from Rob Tolfrey gifted
the hosts the lead when he missed his kick to leave Marcus Elliott with a tap
in, minutes before the end of a poor first half, but Harding brought the sides
level when he volleyed home a cross from Russell Eldridge. The winner came late
in the game when the former Eastbourne striker fired home from close range
following a corner.

|
Due
to the limited car parking space available at the Horsham YMCA
ground, Horsham FC will not be able offer spectator car parking at
home matches for the 2009/10 season apart from a provision for a
limited number of parking season ticket holders. Parking season
tickets are priced at £30 each and will cover all home games
including cup matches. Further details

24-JULY-2009: Andrews back for Redhill test |
|
Ben Andrews returns to the side for the trip to Redhill on Saturday
afternoon after missing Thursday's emphatic victory at Shoreham due to
work commitments. Mark Knee (hamstring), Russell Eldridge (dead leg)
and James Nicholls ('flu) will face fitness tests but John Maggs will
definitely be without the unavailable Gary Charman for the 3pm
kick-off at Kiln Brow. Sam Page will continue his return to full
fitness at the heart of the defence and Maggs has hinted at a starting
place for Sam's brother Jack after the young full-back suffered no
ill-effects from his half hour appearance at Shoreham. |

24-JULY-2009: Sussex Senior Cup draw |
|
Horsham will travel to Bognor Regis Town in the Second Round of the
Sussex Senior Cup at a date to be arranged. Both sides receive a bye in the
First Round. |

24-JULY-2009: Maggs satisfied after Shoreham romp |
|
John Maggs wasn't getting carried away with last night's
demolition of Shoreham, instead saying that it was the kind of result he
would expect against County League opposition. The hosts' victory in
last season's Brighton Charity Cup semi-final was a distant memory at
the end of a 90 minutes in which the Hornets might have doubled their
score while comfortably stifling the Musslemen's own attacking threat.

23-JULY-2009: Five star Hornets too strong for Musselmen |
|
Claude Seanla helped
himself to a hat-trick as Horsham gained some revenge for last season's
Brighton Charity Cup semi-final defeat with a 5-0 win at Shoreham this
evening. The big striker made amends for missing a good early chance by
converting a pass from Lee Carney while Gary Charman might have grabbed
a first half hat-trick of his own with a trio of off target headers. Seanla
doubled the lead after the break and claimed his treble with a classy
finish before Carney and triallist Jack Lyons completed the rout inside
the final ten minutes. Charman and Sam Page provided a further boost by playing
60 and 80 minutes respectively.

22-JULY-2009: Hornets duo to miss
Shoreham visit |
|
Sam
Page looks set to miss tomorrow's trip to Shoreham after hobbling out of
last night's training session with a twisted knee. He'll be joined on
the sidelines by team-mate Lee Carney who picked up an ankle injury on a
frustrating evening for John Maggs.

17-JULY-2009: Charman and Haddow out of pre-season opener |
|
Gary Charman and Alex Haddow will miss tomorrow's trip to Worthing as
the pre-season campaign begins with a return to the seaside town the club
called 'home' last season (kick-off 3pm). The match will also see an early
return to Woodside Road for former Rebels skipper Ben Andrews who teams up
with new strike partner Pat Harding for the first time. The Page brothers, Sam
and Jack, could get an overdue run out after injury with teenage midfielder
Adam Hutchings included in the 17 man party. Admission to the match is £5
adults, £3 Senior Citizens and under 16 £3. |

17-JULY-2009: Players forced to flee as lightning ends training
session |
|
A fierce thunderstorm forced an early abandonment of last night's
training session, forcing the players to race for cover with John
Maggs admitting that things could have taken a turn for the worst if
training had continued. "The thunder and lightning was right on top of
us", he revealed. "I could have ended up with a team of corpses. It
was pretty exposed out there so we all just ran for cover as soon as
it turned nasty. Fortunately it was towards the end of the session so
we didn't lose too much of the evening's work-out" |

15-JULY-2009: Unlucky 13 as Hornets begin campaign with trip to
Dartford |
|
There was an air of inevitability at the release of the 2009/10
Ryman League fixtures after Horsham were drawn to play away from home on
the opening day for an incredible 13th consecutive year. Arguably,
there could be no more impressive venue at which to begin the new
campaign than Dartford's Princes Park but club officials must feel that
the fates have conspired against them, especially as the traditionally
well supported Bank Holiday fixtures must also be spent 'on the road',
thus depriving the club of much needed additional revenue.

10-JULY-2009: Harris signs, and there's the return of a fans'
favourite |
|
John Maggs has wasted little time in replacing the departed Williams
Peauroux by announcing the signing of one time Portsmouth reserve
Scott Harris. The 24 year old midfielder is set to fill Peauroux's
right back spot, after the Frenchman's switch to Lewes this week, but
Maggs has no doubt as the the player's ability to fulfil a defensive
role. "He played at full-back at Portsmouth and, by all accounts, he
was more of a defensive midfielder at Bognor last season so he's no
stranger to the role," said Maggs who continued, "I've been impressed
by what I've seen of him this week. He's trained really hard, has a
good attitude, and really looks the business." Meanwhile, Peauroux
looks set to be followed through the exit door by Yinka Salaam who has
told Maggs that a change in personal circumstances leaves him unlikely
to be able to commit himself to the club for the new season. By
contrast, goalkeeper Paul Seuke has declared himself available once
again following last year's temporary retirement and joins as cover
for Rob Tolfrey. |
|
08-JULY-2009: Williams on the move but Sam's staying put |
|
Claude Seanla, Yinka Salaam and Gary Charman may have been absent but
John Maggs was delighted as pre-season training got underway at
Collyers last night. Travel disruptions in London prevented Seanla
from making the trip south while sickness ruled out Salaam, along with
the holidaying Charman, but it was an impressive turnout from the
squad for what Maggs described as a ‘very good workout’. Among the
returning players was club stalwart Eddie French, who is fighting his
way back to fitness after his shocking injury at the start of last
season. “The players should pin a medal on that boy”, said Maggs. “He
gave it 110%. He’s nowhere near ready for the start of the season but
hopefully we should see him back by the end of the year.” One player
who won’t be featuring next season is Williams Peauroux who has
accepted an offer to join Lewes. A disappointed Maggs explained,
“Lewes have been able to offer Williams much better terms than we can
and that, together with the prospect of playing at a higher level,
proved too big a draw for the lad. It’s disappointing because I would
love to have kept hold of him.” Meanwhile, Maggs revealed that Sam
Page will continue the wear the captain’s armband despite being the
subject of transfer speculation during the summer. “I can confirm that
Sam will start the season with us, again as captain. The (unnamed)
League Club are going to continue to monitor his progress throughout
the season but I can only see Sam going if he is assured of a first
team place with them”. |
|
06-JULY-2009: Pre-Season training |
|
Former Bognor Regis Town midfielder Scott Harris is expected to be one
of several trialists hoping to impress John Maggs when pre-season training
gets underway at Collyers Sixth Form College tomorrow night. Gary Charman and
Tony Nwachukwu (holiday) will be missing but a strong turn out is anticipated
with new signings Pat Harding and Ben Andrews meeting their new team-mates for
the first time since their summer arrival. Although Maggs admits to having
already spent his budget he has not ruled out signing new players, saying
simply that "the pay cheque will go to whoever's best in their position".
Competition for places looks to be greatest between the posts with no less
than 4 goalkeepers due to attend Tuesday's get together, including Hornets'
former Number One Paul Seuke. 'Seukes' hasn't played competitively since
packing in the game to concentrate on his business pursuits last year but is
understood to be using the training sessions to return to fitness. The players
will be training twice a week as they look to prepare for the start of the
2009/10 season on 15th August. |

01-JULY-2009: Tesco voucher appeal |
|
The Club
would like to thank everyone who collected Tesco for Schools & Clubs
vouchers on behalf of Horsham Youth. "We had a tremendous response to
our appeal," revealed Youth Secretary Annie Raby. "We collected a
massive 4620 vouchers, which is fantastic, and it has enabled us to
order 8 match balls and some cones. This is a great help for the youth
squads so thank you all." |

01-JULY-2009: Maggs undaunted by Terrors threat |
|
There was something old and
something new as the draws for the opening rounds of the 2009/10 FA
Cup and FA Trophy competitions were made today. The FA Cup trail
begins on familiar territory with a 1st Qualifying Round tie at league
rivals Tooting & Mitcham while a possible first meeting with Ilford in
30 years is in the offing, provided the Essex men can overcome Barton
Rovers in their FA Trophy Preliminary round clash. "We could have had
an easier start to our FA Cup campaign but we've got a good record at
Tooting so we'll go there in confident mood," said John Maggs. "The FA
Trophy game is a potential banana skin, I suppose, as we've always
struggled in that competition but we've got to be happy with a home
draw." The ties are scheduled to take place on 12th September and 17th
October, respectively. |
