30-JAN-2010: New arrival

John Maggs has moved quickly to secure the services of attacking midfielder Sam Tucknott after his release from Bognor Regis Town last week. The arrival of Havant & Waterlooville forward Luke Nightingale meant the Rocks had to balance their books and Tucknott was one of 3 players asked to find themselves new clubs. A member of the England Futsal squad, Tucknott lists Leyton Orient, Crawley Town, Ebbsfleet Utd, Wycombe Wanderers, Basingstoke Town and Worthing among his former clubs and made his Hornets debut in Thursday's win at Littlehampton Town. Welcome Sam.

30-JAN-2010:  Boreham Wood 4 Horsham 0

Boreham Wood extended their winning league run to 5 games by inflicting a heaviest defeat of the season upon the injury-hit Hornets. It took a contentious penalty decision to get the Hertfordshire side off the mark, Mario Noto converting after Ben Andrews was adjudged to have fouled, and Greg Richards doubled the advantage 10 minutes from the break when he headed home a cross. Steve Sargent was unfortunate not to equalise for the visitors, shortly after Noto's opener, but it was a game of few chances for John Maggs' men who improved after the interval but were hit by 2 goals in the final 3 minutes from Leon Hunter and Chris Watters. 29-JAN-2010: Boreham Wood v Horsham: MATCH PREVIEW

Horsham have injury concerns ahead of Saturday's Ryman Premier Division clash at Boreham Wood. Anthony Acheampong and Alex Haddow were already rated as doubtful to face the 4th placed side and matters looked to have worsened when Craig Bradshaw was forced to withdraw from last night's win at Littlehampton after injuring himself during the warm-up of the Brighton Charity Cup tie. Horsham have won on their last 3 visits to the Hertfordshire side's Meadow Park ground. More...

28-JAN-2010: Littlehampton Town 2 Horsham 3

Eddie French marked his return to the Horsham side with a goal as the Hornets overcame a gallant Littlehampton Town in tonight's Brighton Charity Cup tie. The centre-half, playing in a Hornets shirt for the first time since breaking his leg 17 months ago, scored from close range during the second half to make the score 2-2 after the home side had shocked their higher ranked opponents by taking a spectacular lead. John Maggs elected to field several triallists in the match and Anthony Purcell wouldn't have done his chances any harm by claiming a brace of goals to see off the plucky County Leaguers. 28-JAN-2010: Littlehampton Town v Horsham

John Maggs will take a squad of fringe players, youth teamers and trialists to Littlehampton Town tonight for a delayed Brighton Charity Cup tie where there will be a familiar face among the Marigolds' line up. Defender Niall O'Hagen joined the County Leaguers after impressing for the Hornets in this competition last season and is likely to come up against former team-mates Tony Nwachukwu, Adam Hutchings and Patrick O'Sullivan in a changed Horsham side. With a match against 4th placed Boreham Wood to come on Saturday, Maggs is expected to give veteran 'keeper Rob Frankland a rare run out and will cast his eye over "a striker with Ryman League experience". Lee Farrell scored a double hat-trick for the Hornets in this fixture 3 years ago but Littlehampton will be aiming for a 4th successive victory, having overcome Lancing, Midhurst and Oakwood in recent weeks.

27-JAN-2010:  Rob Frankland

Margate's late equaliser on Saturday may have taken the edge off of the afternoon's entertainment at Gorings Mead but that didn't stop the supporters from enjoying a great night in the clubhouse after the match as they held a fundraising evening on behalf of Rob Frankland. Over £1,000 was raised for the popular player/coach, through donations, an auction and a raffle, to help him through an anxious time of illness and unemployment. HISC Secretary Colin Young, one of the event's co-ordinators, revealed that Frankland was 'gobsmacked' but the player was able to post this response. "A big thank you to all who attended the function on Saturday night. I would like to thank Sean, Richard and Colin for organising the event. It must have taken a lot of time and effort putting together. Also I would like to thank everyone who donated items for the auction and raffle. I am truly grateful for the amount raised on the evening and I am taken aback by the generosity of the Horsham fans once again, which goes to prove they are the best bunch of fans that I have ever had the pleasure of being associated with. A massive thank you."

27-JAN-2010: Fixture news

26-JAN-2010: Horsham 2 Waltham Abbey 1

Horsham returned to winning ways with a narrow 2-1 victory over basement side Waltham Abbey tonight. The Hornets, playing without the injured Anthony Acheampong, were dealt an early blow when Alex Haddow went off with a hamstring problem but they made light of the absence of their key duo when Claude Seanla scored on 25 minutes. The lead was doubled after the break when Sam Page scored, following a Steve Sargent free-kick, but the visitors battled hard to get something from the game and Ted Lllewelyn saw a goal ruled out before Billy Holland gave them hope when he capitalised on an error from Craig Bradshaw. Horsham survived a few anxious moments but only the woodwork prevented Pat Harding from adding a third. Full report...

26-JAN-2010: Horsham v Waltham Abbey: MATCH PREVIEW

Injuries to key players could force John Maggs to field a youthful side for tonight's visit of Waltham Abbey. Anthony Acheampong is the biggest concern, having taken a heavy blow to the thigh during Saturday's 3-3 draw with Margate, but Jack Page and Alex Haddow are also doubts with the latter struggling to shake off a niggling hamstring injury. U18s' Adam Hutchings, Tony Nwachukwu and Patrick O'Sullivan will all be included in the squad for the visit of the league's bottom side with Maggs warning his players that the Premier Division newcomers are unlikely to be a pushover. The Abbotts have performed far better on the road than at their Capershotts base since promotion from Division One North and picked up a very creditable point from their weekend visit to Ashford Town. However, they remain 2 points adrift of nearest rivals Bognor Regis and 6 away from safety and Maggs will want his players to display their promotion credentials by marking the sides' first ever meeting with a victory.

26-JAN-2010: Horsham 3 Margate 3

Horsham were left bemoaning the lack of a linesman's flag after conceding a 90th minute leveller that saw Margate take a well earned point from a 3-3 draw in Saturday's Ryman League encounter at Gorings Mead. The Hornets had taken an early lead through Ben Andrews but found themselves trailing their Kent visitors after 52 minutes. Steve Davies and Claude Seanla scored twice in 3 minutes, late on, and it looked as if the Hornets were going to record their second win in 5 days only for Lloyd Blackman to tap home in injury time. Full report...

22-JAN-2010: Rob Frankland fundraising event this Saturday

HISC would like to extend an open invitation to supporters to come along to a fundraising event at the club this Saturday, in aid of goalkeeping coach Rob Frankland. The popular and loyal club servant has been unemployed since losing his job through illness towards the end of last year and it is hoped that an evening of quizzes, games, a raffle and an auction will raise funds to help support Rob and his young family at this difficult time. The fun will commence in the clubhouse at 6pm, following our match with Margate. More...

21-JAN-2010:  Horsham v Margate: MATCH PREVIEW

Horsham could move in to 4th place with victory over Margate this weekend, as Gorings Mead looks set to host its first match of 2010. The Hornets have emerged victorious from the last 4 meetings with the one-time Conference 'giants' but will be wary of a side that has been beaten just twice since mid November as they attempt to climb away from the relegation places. 20-JAN-2010: Billericay Town 1 Horsham 2

John Maggs praised the spirit of players and supporters alike after the Hornets returned from in-form Billericay Town with a 2-1 win last night. "The first half was as good as we've played all season," he crowed. "We competed really well and could have gone in 3-1 up but we've shown great determination to come back from a goal down and I think we deserved the points. I was chuffed for the supporters as well. There was only a handful of them there but I made sure I shook hands with them all. They were a real credit and we really appreciated them making the effort to get there." Billy Bricknell put the hosts ahead with his 4th goal in 3 games but a goalkeeping error allowed Pat Harding to equalise before Alex Haddow grabbed the injury time winner. Report...

18-JAN-2010: Billericay Town v Horsham: MATCH PREVIEW

16-JAN-2010:  Hornets down to 11th on another frustrating day

Horsham dropped 3 places to 11th in the Ryman Premier Division table on what was another frustrating day of postponements. Just 4 matches went ahead today, with Canvey Island producing the performance of the day to beat lowly Cray Wanderers 5-1 while our hosts on Tuesday, Billericay Town, picked up a vital point at Tooting & Mitcham to leapfrog Bognor Regis Town whose recent revival came to an end at AFC Hornchurch (3-0). Carshalton officials are believed to be undertaking a pitch inspection on Friday, ahead of Saturday's visit of Horsham, with John Maggs' side hoping to make a belated start to the New Year after their recent spate of postponements that has left them without a game for 3 weeks. "We've been told that there is an inch or so of snow covering their pitch," said Maggs, "but I'm hopeful that Carshalton will be able to get this cleared by Saturday and we can finally get a game under our belts. We're fortunate to have a full squad available to us and the boys are desperate for a game to get themselves going again."

10-JAN-2010: Fixture updates PART II

Our away match against Sutton United, postponed from Saturday due to the severe weather conditions, will now take place at Gander Green Lane on Tuesday, 9 March. No new date has been set for next week's postponed Brighton Charity Cup tie at Littlehampton Town after the Sussex FA revealed that it has suspended all County Cup ties until further notice because of the weather.

08-JAN-2010:  Sutton United v Horsham: MATCH POSTPONED

06-JAN-2010: John Maggs....a decade in charge

It might not have been quite the afternoon that he would have hoped for but boss John Maggs was able to leave the quiet surroundings of Gorings Mead at the weekend full of pride after commemorating 10 years in charge of the Hornets, despite the late postponement of the Ryman League clash with Bognor Regis Town. 03-JAN-2010: Wilkins joins elite club

Peter Wilkins has become the latest recipient of the coveted Gold Pass, awarded to former players for their dedication to the club during its amateur days, when he was presented with the honour by Club Chairman Kevin Borrett before Saturday's postponed match with Bognor Regis Town. National Service restricted Wilkins to 51 appearances for his hometown club between 1945 and 1954, having begun his Horsham career as a 16 year old, but the former centre-half has retained an interest in the club despite moving away from the area and was a willing contributor to Adam Hammond's book, Farewell to the County. Other former players to have received their Gold Passes are Roy Spriggs, Denis Stillwell and Albert King. Congratulations Peter.
