Sam Page looks set to miss
tomorrow's trip to Shoreham after hobbling out of last night's
training session with a twisted knee. This latest injury is an
unwelcome setback for the skipper who played his first 45 minutes of
football since mid-March in Saturday's loss at Worthing.
"(Physio) Andi Marfleet will
take another look at him over the next 24 hours and we'll see how it
goes from there but I can't see him playing tomorrow," lamented a
frustrated John Maggs who also saw Lee Carney fall foul of the
Collyers playing surface after he, too, limped away with an ankle
problem.
With Gary Charman ruling
himself out of the pre-season programme to work on his fitness, Maggs
will continue to use the fixtures to assess a number of trialists,
among them 20 year old Jack Lyons who is expected to go straight in to
the side to face the Musselmen at Middle Road tomorrow night (kick-off
7.45pm). The Crawley-based midfielder was a member of the Crystal
Palace Youth Academy before moving on to Peterborough United and,
latterly, Yeovil Town and was introduced to the club by Lee Carney.
"He looks an exciting player," admits the manager. "He doesn't look
like a footballer, to be honest, but he's got a terrific touch on him
and has been excellent in training. He's a confident lad, and I know
he's interested other clubs, so I'm hopeful that we can keep hold of
him."
The County Leaguers triumphed
3-2 against the Hornets in the sides' last meeting, knocking Maggs'
side out of the Brighton Charity Cup semi-finals last March.
