With a new look Under 18 side, manager Ivan Raby played a number of
trialists for this training match with East Grinstead at Worth School.
Horsham played some cracking football and created many chances despite
being on the back foot after conceding an early goal that saw a lobbed
shot go over Horsham 'keeper Dominic Burchell before Tony
Nwachukwu
levelled the score with a superb free kick. Horsham then had many
chances to go in front but were denied by good goal keeping from the
East Grinstead stopper. Michael Nash showed great determination and
speed up front with Patrick O'Sullivan working hard along side him and
the central midfield partnership of Karl Threadgold and Andrew Miller
controlled the middle of the park, providing good link up play with
wingers Nwachukwu and Jordon Williams. Adam Hutchings and George Magnus
governed the back line with Lewis Reeves and Joe Thomson. After changes
that saw Theo Mefsut for Williams and Darren James for Nash, the game
was tight between the two sides when a failed clearance saw Horsham
concede a second goal. Then a golden chance to draw level was missed and
the Wasps counter attacked and struck once more to give them a surprise
3-1 lead at half time.
Further changes were made at the break; Joshua Holmes replaced Burchell
in the Hornets goal, Adam Hutchings moved into centre midfield with
Niall O'Hagan introduced at centre back and Louie Murray replaced
Nwachukwu on the left. Horsham played some good attacking passing
football and continued to create many chances and were rewarded with
goals from
O'Sullivan
and
James
to level the scores at 3-3. More changes
were made in the later stages with Horsham being on top for much of the
last period and, with Murray causing problems on the left, it seemed
only a matter of time before Horsham scored again. But it was the hosts
who scored the winner with a well worked goal and a good finish, though
it was the performances that mattered more than the scoreline in this
match and Horsham came away with plenty of positives from this first
outing. |
