Horsham Youth Under 16s put the disappointment of last week's County Cup defeat  behind them and ran out 3 – 1 winners at the Holbrook club on Sunday.

Bognor arrived at the Holbrook second in the league so a tough test looked on the cards and this proved to be the case in the first half with the Hornets pushing hard and holding the territorial advantage. However Bognor proved to be a hard team to break down and, despite numerous chances, it took until the fortieth minute before the deadlock was broken. Joe Giacomelli, the Hornets' right back, picked up the ball just inside his own half, and took on two players before crossing the ball dangerously into the Bognor penalty area where it was met neatly by Jordan Ruff who passed the ball into the Bognor goal from six yards.

The second half saw Horsham apply further pressure but it took until the twenty first minute before the score-line was increased when Patrick O’Sullivan's inch perfect ball over the top of the Bognor defence found Alexander Green, presenting him with a one on one with the 'keeper, and he deftly lobbed the ball over the advancing goalie from eighteen yards and into the back of the net. O’Sullivan then went on to create a further three chances for himself on goal but found the Bognor goalkeeper in inspired form, making saves that would grace football at any level.

It was, however, the Horsham striker who had the final say when a move which started with the Horsham left back, Ben Mulcahy, and ended with a powerful diving header from O’Sullivan following a superb cross from Jordan Ruff.
Bognor gained their consolation goal deep into stoppage time to take the edge off what was a solid performance by the Hornets defence.
