Looking to repeat
their performance from the start of the season against Worthing Utd
Youth B, Horsham started very strongly in wet and blustery conditions.
Worthing, with a five man back line, defended in numbers and despite
several good chances Horsham were unable to make an early
breakthrough. On 17 minutes, a rare break by Worthing saw Kieran Towse
in action for the first time, the shot driven directly at him from
outside the area. Six minutes later, the Worthing 'keeper tipped a
shot by George Hall onto the crossbar and the deadlock remained.
Despite almost constant pressure by Horsham, Worthing hung on and at
halftime the score remained 0 – 0.
The second half saw renewed pressure by Horsham and, in the 51st
minute, only incredible misfortune kept the scores level when, first,
Hall hit the left hand post with a shot and then, when the rebound
fell to Louis Masih, Horsham were denied again as the ball hit the
opposite post. The Hornets were not to remain goalless for long and,
three minutes later, they took the lead when Dan Petchey was felled in
the area and David O’Callaghan converted the spot kick. The lead was
doubled when substitute Sam Bulley's cross was tapped in by Masih.
O’Callaghan became provider, two minutes later, when his through ball
was slotted home by Petchey. The 58th minute saw a solo run from
outside the area result in a second for Masih as he passed the ball
beyond the 'keeper and into the net. The remainder of the match saw
Worthing battle to the last but they were unable to breach the Horsham
defence. The final score of 4 – 0 was enough to move Horsham a further
two goals ahead of Adur Athletic at the top of the table.
Matt Bulley’s side travel to Fishergate Flyers next week for the
Quarterfinals of the Challenge Cup.
