Having had a rest
last week, with the match being cancelled due to bad weather, Matt
Bulley's side looked sharp right from the off and, with just 2 minutes
gone, Dan Petchey opened the scoring with a long range shot. Felpham
were constantly pegged back in their own half and David O'Callaghan
had chance on 15 minutes when, having gone round 5 Felpham players,
his shot went just over.
On 23 minutes, the
first of several changes were made to rest players for next weekend's
cup match, Bulley and Collier came off and Masih and Clarke took their
place. Two minutes later the young Hornets' lead was doubled when Josh
Clack tapped in a Petchey cross. With Wotton being replaced by Case,
Clack was quickly in the action again when he chased a Horsham
clearance, beat 2 defenders, and shot into a prone 'keeper, Hall
pouncing on the half save and tapping in for Horsham's 3rd. In the
last minute of the half, a shot by Clarke was parried by the Felpham
'keeper straight to Masih for another tap in and a 4 – 0 lead for the
Hornets at half-time.
The second half
started with further changes with Bulley and Collier coming on for
Hall and Petchey but, despite constant pressure by Horsham, it wasn't
until the 56th minute that the lead was further extended when a shot
by Masih was turned wide by the 'keeper only for Clack to pounce on
the ball, turn, and put it in the roof of the net.
Felpham had a couple
of chances over the next 15 minutes, first from a free kick just
outside the box which went just over then a break which saw a 1 on 1
with Towse who blocked the shot and the defence quickly cleared. With
10 minutes to go, Horsham finished their scoring when a cross by
Clarke presented Collier with a tap in at the far post.
Chester was replaced
by Wotton on 64 minutes, only for it to be reversed less than 2
minutes later with Wotton struggling with an injury. Masih had a
chance in the dying seconds when his shot from a corner was headed
over by the Felpham defender.
With Fishergate
Flyers and Adur not playing today, this moves Horsham 13 points clear
at the top of the table having conceded only one goal so far. |
