Despite having shouted themselves hoarse
supporting the senior team at yesterday's FA Cup thriller, Matt Bulley's
U14 side visited Chichester City Colts in the league and maintained
their 100% record with a 2-0 win.
Right from the off, Horsham took control of the game but despite having
the bulk of the play it wasn’t until the twelfth minute that they were
able to breach the Colts' defence. A long ball from the defence hung
up in the wind and was headed by Lewis Goldsmith into the path of
George Hall who calmly slotted the ball home into the top right
corner. Nine minutes later, a cross from the right was headed
goalwards by Hall
only for the Chichester 'keeper to pull off a tremendous save to deny
him a second goal.
With Horsham continuing to dominate, Ryan Wotton came on for Matt
Clarke and, with 4 minutes left in the half, David O’Callaghan went off
after taking a heavy knock, being replaced by Zach Gray.
At the end of the half, Horsham’s defensive line of Mackie Law, Joss Knowles,
Stuart
Chester and Dan Petchey had stood firm and Borer had yet to make a save.
The second half saw a further change with Marcus Collier being
replaced by Tom Blown. The young Hornets continued to dominate play
but with very little reward, except for forcing Chichester to
play with 10 men behind the ball and rarely looking like making a
break.
O’Callaghan and Collier came back on in the 50th minute replacing Law
and Jeeves and, 10 minutes later, a cross by Petchey flashed across
the Colts goal untouched. Within a minute, a solo run by O’Callaghan
forced the Colts 'keeper to make another fine save to keep the home
side in
the game. Horsham had a late scare when a rare Chichester corner held
up in the wind and nearly found it’s way into the top corner but, with time running out,
Horsham’s second goal came when a half shot by O’Callaghan turned into
a perfect pass to Matt Clarke who turned the ball into the left side
of the net and
Horsham saw out the remaining 5 minutes to retain their unbeaten
record and keep their place at the top of the league.
