Having had a two week break due to the
rain it was a sunny, but cold, trip for the under 14’s to Bognor Regis
Town.
Right from the off, Matt Bulley’s side
looked sharp and, within 2 minutes, a cross from Matt Clarke went
across the Bognor box without anyone able to apply the telling touch.
Two minutes later, a cross from Louis Masih was headed on by George
Hall and resulted in a shot from Marcus Collier, saved by the
goalkeeper. Horsham finally took the lead in the 16th minute when a
Hornets corner was cleared and Clarke was on hand to chip it back in
for David O’Callaghan to slot home. Dan Petchey was to take a knock on
18 minutes when a Bognor player dived in very late and left him
holding his ankle.
Five
minutes later, a break down the left by O’Callaghan saw him taken out
with an obscene tackle resulting in him leaving the pitch and the
Bognor player being booked. Will Case came on at the back and the side
was reshuffled with Petchey moving into midfield. With 30 minutes
gone, Horsham were to pile on the goals. First, a cross from Collier
was tapped in by Masih. Three minutes later, Stuart Chester stepped in
front of his man to intercept and picked out Clarke whose through ball
resulted in Masih being felled in the box and Joss Knowles stepped up
to convert from the spot. Then, to finish the half, a clearance from
Bognor fell to Daryl Jeeves who blasted home from 20 metres.
The start of the second half saw three
changes for the Hornets with Ryan Wotton, Josh Clack and a returning
David O’Callaghan coming on for Mackie Law, Matt Clarke and Dan
Petchey (unable to continue due to injury).
Although Horsham had 90% of the possession, and 15+ shots, they were
unable to add to their tally and the final score remained 4 – 0.
The young Hornets return to action in
the New Year with County Cup action at home to Hailsham United
Juniors.
