The 2006/7 season sees Horsham Football Club running sides at three age groups; under 13s, under 15s and under 18s. The club enjoyed various degrees of success last season, with the under 12s giving manager Matt Bulley particular satisfaction after claiming the runners-up spot in the Arun & Chichester League as well as winning the County Cup in their first season together. The under 16s were to emulate the feats of their younger counterparts as they, too, finished in second place in their division of the Arun & Chichester League and the club had the added bonus of being awarded the Sportsmanship Trophy. The under 18s represented the club in two leagues, the County Youth League and the Southern Youth League, coming a respectable seventh in each competition as well as providing the reserve team with a number of players throughout the season. Pride of place for Ivan Raby's squad, though, came with the elevation of Kieran Johnson to the first team squad where he was named man of the match for his performance against Ringmer in the Brighton Charity Cup. The club is always looking for new players as they look to develop, and progress, their youth policy so, if you think you've got what it takes, please get in touch. You'll find contact details for the respective squads by following the links on the left hand side of the page.

Review of the season                                                                                            12th May 2007

Horsham Youth can look back on a highly satisfying season with three championships, a runners-up spot and three cup final appearances for their three sides. We take a look back at the highs (and just a few lows) of the under 13s, 15s and 18s and invite anyone interested in attending trials during the Summer to contact Annie Raby on 01403 732706. Green's treble seals title for happy Hornets                                                           6th May 2007

Ali Green grabbed his fifth goal in five days as the under 15s claimed the Adur & Chichester League title with a 5-0 win at Chichester City. Leading by just a solitary goal at the break, the Hornets took advantage of the wind to score four times to give Horsham Football Club their third championship of the season. Full report...

Dean and Danny sweep up in player of the year awards                                       6th May 2007

Dean Wright capped a memorable season by picking up two awards at the club's end of season dinner/dance on Friday night. The sixteen year old could be happy enough to have made ten appearances for the first team but his twenty-three goals made him the club's leading scorer in their County Youth League championship winning campaign, an achievement that not only won him an award but also saw him voted player of the year by his team-mates. Andy Wright, manager of the County Youth side, showed that there was no family bias, awarding fellow striker Danny Molineaux with the manager's player of the year trophy. Molineaux made it two trophies for the night when he picked up the goalscorer's award for his Southern Youth League exploits while Lee Saxby and Kieran Johnson ended their youth team association by collecting an award each. The two players, who had joined the club as eleven year olds and progressed through the ranks together, were acknowledged with a players' player of the year title for Saxby with the parents' player of the year going to Johnson. Now ineligible for youth team football, both will be hopeful of being part of John Maggs' first team squad for the forthcoming season.

One more win will do it for under 15s                                                                     2nd May 2007

The under 15s put themselves in the driving seat to claim the Arun & Chichester League Division 'A' title after a resounding 8-0 win at lowly Bognor Regis Town Colts on Wednesday night. With leaders Worthing United 'A' completing their season with a 3-0 reverse at home to Bognor Regis Town Youth, the Hornets now sit in second place with victory at Chichester City United on Sunday enough to guarantee them the title.

Play-off misery for under 18s                                                                                   1st May 2007

The under 18s fell to an extra-time defeat at Eastbourne Borough on Sunday as the two sides contested the Sussex County Youth League championship play-off semi-final. The best performing side of the East, West and Central divisions automatically qualify for the play-off final with the other two contesting a semi-final tie and so it was that the Hornets' poor end of season form led them to undergo the long trek to East Sussex for the right to take on Central division champions Southwick. An entertaining meeting saw Horsham trail after just two minutes only for Elliott Hawkes to level things up before the break and a brace of goals from Dean Wright took the game into extra-time after the home side had taken a 3-1 lead. Sadly the luck was to run out in the additional thirty minutes as Borough ran in two more unanswered goals to emerge victors by 5-3.

Fixture postponement hands Hornets the title                                                      30th April 2007

Horsham's under 13s were crowned champions of the Arun & Chichester League in somewhat anti-climactic circumstances after their final match of the season was postponed when their opponents were unable to raise a side. Adur Athletic had kept pace with the Hornets all season and trailed by just three points going into the final fixture knowing that only a landslide victory would deny Horsham the title. Unable to field a side, the Shoreham based club forfeited the points to hand the young Hornets the league championship to add to the League Cup final success at the weekend. All eyes now turn to the fate of the under 15s and their attempt to overhaul Bognor Regis Town and Worthing United at the top of their division.

Under 15s keep up the pressure at top of table                                                    30th April 2007

The Arun & Chichester League title looks set to go to the final round of matches after the under 15s' win against Regis 2000 leaves the Hornets hot on the heels of the the leading pair. Patrick O'Sullivan, Ali Green (2) and Sam Howes scored the goals in a 4-1 success that puts Andy Green's side just two points behind Bognor Regis Town and Worthing United 'A' who cancelled each other out at the weekend with a 1-1 draw. A similar result would suit the Hornets when the two sides meet for the return fixture on Wednesday with Horsham taking on Bognor Regis Town Colts on the same evening.

Deserved silverware for under 13s                                                                       29th April 2007

Horsham's under 13s claimed the first part of what should prove to be a League and Cup double after defeating Felpham Colts 3-0 in the final of the Southdown Garage (Gulf) Trophy Final on Sunday afternoon. George Hall, Marcus Collier and Matthew Mayes were all on target for the Hornets who host Adur Athletic on Tuesday evening in a match that should see them crowned Arun & Chichester League champions. Hornets' sting too strong for Wasps                                                                      26th April 2007

The fixtures continue to come thick and fast for Horsham's under 18s who maintained their fine form with a 4-1 victory at East Grinstead in the Southern Youth League. Jamie Baxter took his season's goalscoring tally into double figures with a brace of goals as the Hornets continued their quest for second place in the League. Danny Molineaux scored his fifth goal in five games while captain Kieran Johnson chipped in with the other goal.

Youngsters edge closer to title triumph                                                                25th April 2007

Two goals from Josh Windeatt, his 33rd and 34th of the season, took the under 13s to within sight of the Arun & Chichester League Division A championship with a routine victory over Bognor Regis Town Colts on Tuesday evening. The Hornets require just a point from their remaining game against title rivals Adur Athletic to clinch the first leg of what could be a memorable League and Cup 'double' with a League Cup final appearance against Felpham Colts awaiting them on Sunday. Full report...

The under 15s were also in winning form on Tuesday as they defeated Worthing Dynamos 5-3 to close the gap at the top of the Arun & Chichester League Division A table to one point with three games remaining.

Hornets close in on second place                                                                          24th April 2007

Danny Molineaux's fourteenth goal of the season kept Horsham's under 18s in the hunt for the Southern Youth League runners-up spot with a narrow victory against Horley Town on Monday night. The striker's goal, four minutes before the break, was enough to gain revenge for the 4-2 defeat at The New Defence back in November and gives the Hornets a great chance of claiming second spot behind title favourites Worthing.

Surlis leaves it late for the champions                                                                  22nd April 2007

Pat Surlis' 85th minute goal was enough to defeat Storrington as the under 18s concluded their league campaign with their first win in three attempts since winning the County League championship at the beginning of the month. Elsewhere, the under 15s maintained their challenge for the Arun & Chichester League title with a 2-2 draw against rivals Worthing 'A'. Ali Green and James Cook were on target for the Hornets who currently sit in fourth place, just two points behind leaders Chichester City with four games to play.

Chichester no match for goal crazy Hornets                                                         22nd April 2007

The under 13s turned in an astonishing display to defeat Chichester City Colts 16-3 in Sunday's Arun & Chichester League meeting. The visitors established a 5-0 lead inside the opening quarter of an hour, led 7-1 at the break and scored a further nine goals in the second half. The young Hornets now have a 25 goal advantage on championship rivals Adur Athletic whom they face in the final game of the season on May 1st. Full report...

Horsham's under 13s returned to winning ways with a 5-2 win against Rustington Otters to move clear of their rivals at the top of the Arun & Chichester League table. Sunday's cup final disappointment was put aside as five different players got on the scoresheet to keep them on track for the title with just three matches remaining. Full report...

Fine run continues for under 18s                                                                          17th April 2007

Horsham's good form in the Southern Youth League continued with a narrow 2-1 victory at lowly Three Bridges on Monday night. Goals from Kieran Johnson and Dean Wright earned the Hornets a fifth win in six games to keep up the pressure at the top of the table where Worthing, 4-1 winners against Lewes, continue to lead the field.

Under 18s held by Arundel                                                                                    15th April 2007

Sussex County Youth League champions Horsham were held to a 1-1 draw by fifth placed Arundel on a hot Sunday morning at the Atspeed Stadium. Goalless at half-time, the Hornets went ahead through Pat Surlis only for the visitors to equalise from a set-piece to repeat the scoreline from when the two sides met back in September. The under 15s were without a fixture this weekend after their match against Bognor Regis Town Colts was postponed but results elsewhere saw them slip back to fourth in the Arun & Chichester League table, seven points behind leaders Chichester City United with three games in hand.

Sussex Challenge Trophy Final heartbreak for under 13s                                   15th April 2007

Horsham's under 13s picked the wrong time to end their season long 100% winning record when they fell to a 2-1 defeat against Adur Athletic in the final of the Sussex Challenge Trophy. Trailing by two goals, the young Hornets hit back thanks to a great goal from David O'Callaghan but they were left heartbroken when Dan Petchey's last gasp header hit the crossbar.

The result would have come as a disappointment to manager Andy Wright whose side looked set to complete the season unbeaten, having secured the League title last weekend.

Lingfield not at the races as under 18s go nap                                                      3rd April 2007

Pat Surlis scored a brace as the under 18s gained an impressive league double over Lingfield in Monday night's Southern Youth League meeting at the Atspeed Stadium. The Surrey side had been beaten just once in the league this season, a 2-3 reverse against the Hornets last month, and Ivan Raby's side followed that up with a 5-1 triumph to register their biggest home win of the season. Rupert Cape, Kieran Johnson and Ben Thomson were the other scorers. Full report...

Seven up for the under 18s as the Championship is landed                                   1st April 2007

Horsham's under 18s were toasting their success today after clinching the Sussex County Youth League championship with a 7-1 win at Storrington. Rustington's 3-0 reverse at home to Chichester City means that the Hornets can no longer be caught, with only three matches remaining. The goals were shared among five players, with an own goal thrown in for good measure, as Andy Wright's side continued their excellent form that has seen them drop just two points all season. However, goals from Will Broomfield and Matt Ford gave the visitors a 2-0 win to maintain their quest for the League title. Full report...

Prestigious award for Horsham Football Club                                                 8th October 2006

Horsham FC is to be congratulated for being awarded the prestigious FA Club Charter Standard. The FA Charter Standard Clubs programme, supported by FA Community Partner McDonald's, was launched in February 2001 and is a core component of The FA Football Development programme. The project is aimed at boys and girls under sixteen years old and will help children and parents find a club in their local area that meets FA standards. An awful lot of hard work has been put in by managers, coaches and administrators at the club in order to earn this award but special mention must be made of Horsham Youth secretary Annie Raby whose hard work and dedication has ensured that Horsham Football Club has become one of only a handful of Sussex clubs who can boast this award for the youth and first teams. An official presentation is expected to be made at the Atspeed Stadium in the near future. You can read more about the FA Club Charter Standard on the FA's website here.
